Truffula Trees

How We’ll Do it (Instructions)

1. Watch The Lorax Movie with the children for some inspiration
2. When finished, have them create their own Truffula Tree
3. Give each student a long wooden skewer *Be careful of the sharp end
4. Attach a small styrofoam ball onto the sharp end of the stick
6. Using Duo Tang Pins, place a Boa (about 15-20 inches long) between the pin then close it
7. Next poke the pin into the styrofoam ball
8. Now wrap the boa around the styrofoam ball, and use another pin to poke it in.
9. Continue wrapping & poking until the entire Styrofoam ball is wrapped with the boa
10. Next, wrap a pipe cleaner of their choice around the stick
11. Lastly, have them poke feathers into the ball to add more color. **Have them choose their favorite colors so it may look like a Truffula Tree of their choice!

Purpose:

This activity was used to educate children on the importance of trees and what they provide for us. I used this activity on the week of Earth day to help reiterate the importance of taking care of our environment and nature. They loved the end result and wanted to make more truffula trees!
